William "Bill" LeRoy Anderson was born in Ethel, WA in 1933, to Harold and Elsie Anderson. There were three boys born to this family. Bill was in the Air Force where he played football, then served in the Korean War for three and a half years. He was then a logger and high climber in Alaska, Washington and Oregon. After moving from Alaska to South Dakota, he met and married Gerldine (Pooley-Woodward) in 1963 and helped raise her seven children. Bill worked at the coal mines, Kerr-McGee and Jacobs Ranch, in Wyoming as a supervisor for 20 years. He served on the board for the Newcastle Country Club, where he also enjoyed playing golf. Bill loved to play golf, baseball and tennis, and even played in several tournaments. He also loved playing guitar at the Senior Center for the dances as a member of the “Western Ramblers.” On Sunday’s, Bill played music and sang at the Little Country Church. Bill and Gerldine could be seen around town on their daily walks, holding hands. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jesse, in 2009. Bill is survived by his wife Gerldine; brothers Art (Betty) Anderson of Centralia, WA and Dick Anderson of Wickenburg, AZ; children Colleen Ball of Arcadia, IN, Carleen Cunningham of Rapid City, SD, Jerry (Peg) Woodward of Custer, SD, Patsy (Bill) Anderson of Rapid City, SD, Bill (Jenilee) Woodward of Albuquerque, NM, Buck (Cathy) Woodward of Anthem, AZ; daughter-in-law- Connie Woodward of Custer, SD; 19 grandchildren, 54 great grand children and 24 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Weston County Senior Services, 627 Pine St. in Newcastle, WY, with a reception to be held immediately following service. Interment will be held in the Custer Cemetery in Custer, SD.
