William Bailey, Sr

William H. Bailey, Sr., age 73, a resident of Troy, formerly of Royal Oak, died July 26, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born August 20, 1935 in Highland Park. Mr. Bailey was a 1954 graduate of Cooley High School. He retired from the U.S. Army National Guard in 1987 after 34 years of service. He retired from the Royal Oak Fire Department as Fire Marshal in 1991 and was a member of the Firefighters Retiree Group. He is survived by his wife, Joann Bailey, whom he married November 3, 1956; daughter, Coreen Kurt Dean of Royal Oak; brothers, John M. Bailey of Vero Beach, FL and Harold F. Bailey of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Alicia Derifield and Jered Dean; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, William H. Bailey, Jr. in 1986 and daughter, Lisa Bailey in 2001. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-8 p.m. and Thursday 12-8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. The service will be Friday 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Matt Wollam-Berens officiating. The burial will take place at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
