Virginia (Ginnie) Lee Winter, age 80, died the evening of April 20, 2023 in Newcastle, Wyoming.
Ginnie was born August 12, 1942 in Imperial, Nebraska to Louis P. Schneider and Marie A. Schneider (Waterman).
After Ginnie graduated from Venango High School, she found herself in the small town of Colony, Wyoming where she met her future husband, Rueben at a Thanksgiving Dinner. When she began waiting tables at a Newcastle truckstop, Rueben became a frequent customer.
Rueben and Ginnie became a couple while Rueben served overseas in the U.S. Military, and Ginnie worked as a bartender at the Little Brown Jug in Newcastle. She crashed his 1960’s Ford Galaxy while he was overseas, a story she loved to tell throughout their joyful marriage. They were married on June 26, 1965 in Julesburg, Colorado after Rueben returned. They briefly lived in Belle Fourche before they settled down in Rueben’s hometown of Upton a year later where they made a home for the next 57 years. Ginnie worked in the Upton school district as a paraeducator and administrative assistant for nearly three decades. She was a cherished mother, grandmother and “GiGi” as she was known by her great grandchildren. Ginnie was a skilled craftswoman known for her elaborate greeting card making, an avid card player with a knack for introducing family and friends to new games. Ginnie loved meeting with her friends at the roundtable for coffee. She was the toughest lady her family ever knew. She loved being surrounded by her family who love and miss her, but they take comfort that she is now home with the Lord.
Ginnie is survived by her loving husband Rueben; brother Robert Schneider (Barb); daughters Kim (Randy) and Kelli(Scott); grandchildren, Travis, Lauren (Matt), Madi, Braden (Katie) and Riley and great grandchildren Kobie Bolles, Atticus James Schiller and Kaden Walser as well as another boy to be born to Travis and fiancee Cara Blansett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Lorena (Dolly) and NaDean as well as her granddaughter Kristina Bolles and nephew Travis Ingram.
A funeral service will be held April 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the Upton Community Center with a reception to follow.
Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Meridian Mortuary, 111 S. Railway Ave., Newcastle, WY, 82701 or expressions of sympathy may also be made online at www.meridianmortuary.com.
