Virginia Schulz

Virginia R. Schulz, age 86, a lifelong resident of Royal Oak, died February 7, 2009 in Troy. She was born May 16, 1922 in Royal Oak and was raised in Detroit. She graduated from Cass Tech High School, majoring in commercial art. During her career, she attended Michigan State University management classes. Mrs. Schulz resided in Royal Oak from 1950 until present day. She loved family history and gathered priceless stories and information. She was an excellent cook and hosted large family parties. She loved her family and was devoted to their care. She was kind, honest and strong. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Queen of the Nile and the Michigan League for Crippled Children. She is survived by her children, Jo Anne Hatto of Grand Blanc, Thomas Terry Schulz of Waterford, Barbara Schulz of Royal Oak and Donald Marsha Schulz of Bloomfield Hills; sister-in-law, Margaret Underhill of Fraser; aunt, Elizabeth Folsom of Traverse City; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Schulz, on August 21, 1996. The couple were married on November 28, 1942 in Grosse Pointe; son, James Schulz; and son-in-law, John Hatto. Visitation will be held on Thursday 2 - 4:00 pm and 6 - 8:00 pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. In state Friday 10:00 am until time of service 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Rice officiating.
