Resident Spotlight
Virginia Ginny Bracey was born to Lillian and
Sylvester Ignash in Detroit, Michigan on April
3rd, 1920. Her father soon left the family and
Ginny was raised by her mother who worked as
one of the founders of the Paris Store in Hamtramck.
As an only child, Ginny's best friends
were her books and instead of helping with
household chores, she would hide under the dining
room table and read. Later, attending Commerce
High School, her literary tendencies
served her well as editor of the high school
newspaper. When an older family friend Edward Bracey an auto worker at Dodge Main driving one of the very first cars to leave the assembly line came to take her for ice cream, cars became her new love as did the driver of that car. Twenty years later they married and were together for over fifty years
until Edward's passing in 2000 at age 95. They had two daughters Katherine DeTone Lorenzo and Judith Woodmansee, 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. As an adult, Ginny enjoyed crafts such as photography, calligraphy, knitting, and painting as well as sports such as golf, tennis, and racquet
ball. She worked part time at the Paris Store and Detroit City Airport. While not an avid traveller, Ginny loved Disney World and Mackinaw Island. Her
favorite summer activity was the annual Mackinaw Bridge Walk. She attended Macomb Community College with her one of her granddaughters, another
Ginny, where they became nick named "Ginny One" and "Ginny Two". What Ginny likes best about Evangelical Home is the caring staff and spending
time outdoors either in the courtyard or the Nature Trail.
