Vernon McDonald

Vernon L. "John" McDonald, age 88, a resident of Royal Oak, died February 14, 2013 at Boulevard Health Center in Rochester Hills. He was born May 18, 1924 in Maysville, WV to the late David and Cora McDonald. Mr. McDonald was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who received a Purple Heart. He was the owner of the family business "AAA - McDonald Tree Service" in Royal Oak. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a great musician and loved his pickled bologna and flying he had his pilots license. But most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Doris L. Johnston McDonald; the couple married October 27, 1956 in Angola, IN; children, Leonard Stewart, Robert Kathryn Stewart, Linda Larry Serapilia, Vernon Liesa McDonald, Jr., Loretta Curt Cwiek, Rockie McDonald, Kimberly Kurt Kaminski, John McDonald and Loleta McDonald; 19 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 sister and 3 brothers. The visitation will be Sunday 1-8 p.m. and service Monday 11 a.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Burial at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak. Memorials to the Michigan Humane Society are appreciated.
