V. "Don" Vettraino, age 76, a resident of Madison Heights for more than 40 years, passed away June 29, 2014 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born September 5, 1937 in Highland Park to the late Joseph and Veronica "Verna" Vettraino. Mr. Vettraino was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired in 1991 after more than 30 years as the maintenance supervisor in the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Huntington Woods. He loved to coach hockey, play softball and golf, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. Vettraino nee Ervasti; loving father of Scott Britta Vettraino and Matt Kelly Vettraino; dear brother of the late Joseph June Vettraino, the late Robert Deanna "Dee" Vettraino, Connie the late Bruce Cochran, Roberta the late Bill Brooks, Rick Rita Vettraino and Mark Kelly Vettraino; proud grandfather of Aria, Aidan, Arissa, Brendan, Kya, Chloe and Ava; and son-in-law of Janet Foss and the late Gene Foss and the late William Ervasti. The visitation will be Tuesday 4-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Vettraino will lie in state Thursday 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass 11 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Clawson. Burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak.
