Thomas Tinsley, Jr., age 83, a 29-year resident of Royal Oak, died October 27, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born April 22, 1926 in Low Moor, VA. Mr. Tinsley served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II aboard an aircraft carrier and a mine sweeper. He retired from the General Motors Chevrolet Livonia Plant in 1985 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed flower gardening around his home and was an avid walker. He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Horst Tinsley, whom he married October 18, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak; children, Jacqueline Gary Hagadorn Doody of Lake Orion, Linda Michael Bowen of Goodrich and Jeffrey Tinsley of Indianapolis, IN; siblings, Beulah Epperson, Audrey Ray Murphy, Marie Willie Bettarel, Freda Brewer, Gail Ray Tinsley and McGuthrie Tinsley; and grandchildren, Sean Doody, Keith Doody, Holly Bowen, Scott Bowen and Kailey Bowen. The visitation will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. until the time of the service 1 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak, with the Rev. Dale Hunter officiating. The burial will take place at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy. Memorials to the charity of the donor's choice appreciated.
