Theodore M. Halls

Graveside services for Newcastle resident, Theodore M. Halls, 84, will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 18th at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle with Pastor Wayne Wilson officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2756 of Newcastle.
Mr. Halls died at his home in Newcastle Saturday, March 15th.
Ted was born January 26, 1924 in Hot Springs, South Dakota the son of Raymond and Emma Heppner Halls. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps on October 7, 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater of operations seeing action on Iwo Jima and the Volcano Islands. He also served in the Occupation of Japan. He was a light truck drive and had earned the expert rifleman's badge. He was discharge April 30, 1946. Returning home he married Doris M. Abbott on July 20, 1946 at Hot Springs, South Dakota. To this union two children were born, Sarah Clyde and Theodore L. Ted Halls. The family moved to Newcastle in 1954 where Ted was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the bentonite industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being a family man.
Survivors include his wife Doris, son Ted, and daughter Sarah all of Newcastle; a brother Clarence Halls of Sturgis, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, Laurell Turner, Angle Kelly, Bonnie, Megan Turner, J.L. Halls, Jr., Doris McLoud, Michelle Berry, and Heather Evans. Also surviving are fifteen great grandchildren.
