Sophie S. Jerzy nee Theurle, age 97 of Utica, passed away March 5, 2011. Mrs. Jerzy was born on July 26, 1913 in Poland to bakery owner Stefan & seamstress Katherine Werner Theurle. Sophie grew up in Windsor, Canada, and in 1937 she married Theodore Jerzy from Detroit. She lived in both Warren and Utica for a number of years, and moved to Gaylord when her husband retired in 1968. She enjoyed doing community work and retail work for many years. She resided for a short time with her son, Ted, and then lived at Northpoint Village of Utica in her remaining years. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, the Daughters of Isabella, and RSVP in Gaylord, where she graciously contributed many crocheted items for babies of unwed mothers. She also volunteered at Alten Zimmer Senior Center, helping with their lunches, and playing cards with residents. Sophie is survived by her son, Theodore G. MaryLee Jerzy, grandaughers, Christine J. Head, Jennifer L. Jerzy, and 2 great grandchildren. Sophie is preceded in death by her husband Theodore and son Richard. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
