Ruth Bowen

Ruth Marie Bowen, age 79, a resident of Troy since 1960, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born July 7, 1929, in Detroit. Mrs. Bowen's family said she loved being a grandmother and described her as an eternal optimist. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Royal Oak Chapter #392 and the Ladies' Oriental Shrine. She is survived by her children, Brenda Kast of Detroit, Mike Linda Bowen of Goodrich, Lisa Bowen of Troy and Willie Shelley Bowen of Sterling Heights; siblings, Madoline Anderson of Yuma, AZ, Sue Shaw of Louisville, MS, Faye Rissman of Taylor and Benny Anne Weems of Oroville, CA; grandchildren, Holly, Scott, Kailey, Jeremy, Shayne, Ashley and McKenzie; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Stephanie and Lindsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Will "Hack" Bowen, on February 2, 2007. The couple married on December 22, 1951, in Madison Heights; and sisters, Mary Lou Hyre and Wilma Felt. Visitation will be Saturday 5-8 p.m. and Sunday 1-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Order of the Eastern Star service at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Service will be Monday 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Elder Randy Thompson officiating. Entombment will take place at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
