GRATOPP, Roy J., 64, a lifelong resident of Utica, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital, Detroit. He was born January 5, 1941, in Pontiac. Mr. Gratopp was employed in maintenance for Utica Community Schools. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica. He joined the Utica Fire Department May 1, 1961, became a lieutenant November 1, 1965, was named captain, August 1, 1967, and retired from the Fire Department on January 1, 2004. He is survived by his children, Timothy Marie Gratopp, Mark Gratopp, Kevin Shannon Gratopp, and Matthew Gratopp. Grandson , David; brother-in-law, Dick Gagnon. , mother and father-in-law, George and Betty Force. He was predeceased by his wife, Karon on November 6, 1990; parents, John and Mabel Gratopp; and sister Evelyn, Evelyn Gannon. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 VanDyke, Utica, with the Reverend Dr. Mark A. Hill officiating. Burial will take place in Utica Cemetery, Utica. Visitation is Friday 5-9pm, Saturday 2-9pm, and Sunday 2-9pm with a firemen passing review at 7pm, at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road, 3 blocks east of VanDykeUtica. Additional visitation is 10am-11am Monday at the church. Memorials contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
