Funeral Mass for Weston County native Bob Tavegie, 64, will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, January 12th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Randy Oswald as celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 11th at Corpus Christi Church under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. The family prefers memorial contributions to Treasured Memories Hospice or, to a memorial scholarship for an agricultural student.
Mr. Tavegie died Sunday, January 8th at his home following a lengthy illness.
Bob was born August 17, 1941 in Newcastle, Wyoming the son of Henry and Dora Perino Tavegie. He attended grade school in Osage, Wyoming and was a graduate of Newcastle High School. He also attended college for one year at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Bob married Kathleen Landrigan in Newcastle on June 19, 1965. He ranched on Skull Creek and Oil Creek from the time he was a young boy until the time of his death.
Bob was an FFA Wyoming State Farmer. He was honored by the Newcastle Jaycees in 1973 as Outstanding Young Rancher. Throughout the years he was a very active member of the Soil Conservation Service, Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency and Inyan Kara Grazing Association. He served on the Weston County Fair Board and Weston County Junior Rodeo committee. From 1997 to 2003, he served on the Wyoming Beef Council. From 2002 to 2005 he was the NCBA Checkoff Director for the state of Wyoming. He enjoyed following his sons in Wyoming State High School Rodeo and National High School Rodeo after having participated in rodeo himself. He was associated with the St. Onge Livestock Sale Barn from 1960 until the time of his death.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee and was a member of The Knights of Columbus. Bob was a part of the cattle industry for over fifty years. He loved his rural life and was dedicated to improving the ranching and beef industries.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen; daughter Kelly Bryan Greenwald; sons Todd Tavegie and Troy Kelli Tavegie; a sister Dolores Nick Orfanakis of Lake Oswego, OR; a brother Don Tavegie of Buffalo, WY. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Barry and Rhett Greenwald; and Tell and Pate Tavegie.
