Robert Rinegar

April 6, 1925 — August 2, 2007

Funeral services for Upton resident Robert C. ?Bob? Rinegar, 82, will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 6th at Upton United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Spencer officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in Upton. Viewing will be Monday, August 6th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Upton United Methodist Church. Contributions to the Upton Ambulance Fund c/o First Tier Bank of Upton would be appreciated by the family. Services have been entrusted to Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle.

Mr. Rinegar passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, August 2nd at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.

Bob was born April 6, 1925 in Pukwana, South Dakota the son of Cameron Arthur and Arla Vickerman Rinegar. He graduated from high school in Pukwana and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He participated in the Pacific Campaign, serving aboard the U.S.S. Ommaney Bay, the U.S.S. Columbia, and the U.S.S. Enterprise. The Ommaney Bay was sunk by kamikaze planes on January 4, 1945 in the Philippines. Hours later the survivors, including Bob ?Red? Rinegar, were picked up by the U.S.S. Columbia which was then hit, but not sunk by kamikaze planes.
Following the war, Bob attended college at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD where he met MarJean Ollenburg. They married and moved to Newcastle, WY. He accepted a position teaching high school in Upton, WY and taught there from 1950 until his retirement in 1987.
Bob loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He never gave up on finding that one perfect fishing hole!
He is survived by four children; Patricia Tom Fleming of Sioux Falls, SD, Roberta Bruce Lessig of Casper, WY, Cameron Marge Rinegar of Belle Fourche, SD, and Michael Rinegar of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are four grandchildren Neil and Ann Fleming; Matt and Julia Rinegar; his sister Pat Lake of Chamberlain, SD his Uncle Blair Vickerman of Rochester, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
