Funeral services for Robert Stuart Peterson, 81, will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 16th at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Spencer and Rev. Don Hartley officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Sturgis Honor Guard will be at 1:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2516 Flag Program.
Robert died Friday, March 9th at his Custer County SD ranch home of natural causes.
Mr. Peterson was born November 28, 1925 at Malden, Massachusetts, the son of John Arthur and Olive Mary Moore Peterson. He attended primary school in E. Braintree, MA. He retired as a Master Sgt. from the United States Air Force in 1971 serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Following his retirement he established his own trucking company working as an owner/operator for twenty years retiring again in 1992. At this time he retired to his ranch where he enjoyed his dogs, and the outdoors. Bob?s good hearted nature led many visitors from all over to vacation at the Peterson ranch. His love of life and many adventures were shared by his story telling; always with Bob?s witty sense of humor adding a unique twist. In his younger days he enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, and playing drums in a band. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
Surviving him is his wife Joanne Peterson of Rapid City, SD; sons Mark Carrie Peterson of Palmer, AK, Steven Becki Peterson of Gillette, WY and Michael Peterson of Gillette, WY; and daughter Patricia Greg Hoag of Roseville, MN. Also surviving him are nine grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 40 years, Charlotte Peterson; his parents John Arthur and Olive Mary Peterson, and his brothers Howard and Kenneth Peterson
