Robert “Bob” Miller, 87, of Newcastle, passed away on November 22, 2020 from multiple complications at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. Bob was born to Corinne and Vernon on a small farm in Nebraska on April 20, 1933. After graduating Eighth Grade from the Newcastle Junior High School he worked in Newcastle on various construction and road work projects. In June 1950, Bob joined the Navy. After initial training he served on the USS Saytor, a Landing Craft repair ship, docked offshore from P’ohang, Korea. In October 1951, he was medically discharged as a Navy Seaman. In 1952, he met and wed Dorothy Marie in San Francisco, going on to have two children, Richard and Debi. After moving to Newcastle in 1956, Bob eventually became owner of Enco and Exxon gas stations. In 1974, he sold the gas stations to purchase his own logging trucks which he sold just prior to the Newcastle Sawmill closing. His last job was driving for Dixon Brothers until he had to retire a few years ago for medical reasons. Bob was a volunteer Sheriff’s Posse and a member of the Newcastle Fire Department from 1958 to 1979, including two years as the Fire Department’s Chief in 1973 - 1974. He earned his private pilot’s license and, as part of the Fire Department training, was a certified scuba diver. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Corrine and Vernon; his two brothers, Duane and Ronnie; and his sister, Sharon. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy from Newcastle, WY; his son, Rick (Shelly) Miller from Las Vegas, NV; his daughter Debi (Dave) Butzler from Nashville, TN; and grandchildren, Scott (Sarah) Miller and Kristie Miller from Las Vegas, NV; Dylan Butzler, who is currently stationed in Pensacola, FL; and Dustin Butzler from Albany, OR. Visitation will be held at Meridian Mortuary from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday December 4th and Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 5th at Meridian Mortuary; burial at Greenwood Cemetery to follow. At 1:00 p.m., the door will be open at Bob’s “Shop” to share favorite stories and celebrate his life! In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bob’s name to the Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department.
