Robert C. Baker, age 91, a 60-year resident of Royal Oak, past away peacefully at home on September 4, 2013 with his family by his side. He was a loving husband and devoted father of six. Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He received two Purple Hearts and was an active member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Michigan. He was a former officer of the Royal Oak Elks Club. He worked for Chrysler for 40 years. He also was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Allen Park and Detroit until his health prohibited him from continuing. He was a man of few words, but he was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary V. Bube Baker; in 2011; son, Robert Baker, in 2005; grandson, John Strauss, in 2006; and brother, Jack Baker. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Chuck Strauss, James Liz Baker, Paul Baker, Grace Marty Adams and Mark Kim Baker; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one niece; and three nephews. Robert will lie in state Saturday 9 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
