Richard Kay Unsworth, age 81, a resident of Royal Oak, passed away at Beaumont Hospice surrounded by loved ones on October 20, 2010. Richard was born in Chicago, IL to the late Jack and Miriam Eckley on May 3, 1929. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Saipan, as an electronic technician, and was an active member of the U.S.S. Saipan Association. He then continued his education and graduated from Lawrence Tech. He was a technical writer for Chrysler Defense Engineering and General Dynamics Tank/Land Systems. He was a kind, loving and gentle man, offering help to one and all. Richard was multi-talented, being a jack of all trades and master of quite a few. He was deeply loved by one and all. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Carol; children, R. Thomas Miriam, Shane Theresa, Sharon Fraser Hewitt, Colette J., Brian Judy and Michael Janice; grandchildren, Jeremy Adams, Stephanie Mike Groves, Andrea Gray, Shane, Jennifer, Natalie, Nicole, Bradley and Jessica; great grandchildren, Tatum and Elliott Groves; siblings, Robert and Patricia; and his pets, Teddy, Lady and Tigger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara. The visitation will be Sunday 2-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Richard will lie in state at 10 a.m. until the time of Mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Royal Oak.
