Funeral services for Richard D. Morris, 74, will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 12th at First United Methodist Church in Newcastle with Rev. Eric Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. Visitation will be Monday, February 11th at Worden Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Richard passed away at his daughter's home in Torrington, Wyoming on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.
Dick Morris was born 18 miles West of Newcastle to Ben and Edna Pridgeon Morris on May 17, 1933. He was one of eight children. Dick attended Knobby Knoll School and Newcastle High School graduating in 1951. In 1956 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea. After being discharged from the Army he did ranch work including working for Bob Wright and George Mill. In 1962 he married Karen Hammell. To this union two children, Fern and Cody were born. He later worked at Black Hills Power & Light plant in Osage and for Townsend Oil Company. He owned and operated Western Processing in Newcastle with his brother. Dick enjoyed ranching, hunting, fishing and gardening. His family was very important to him.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Edna, and one brother Jim Morris.
He is survived by his four brothers and two sisters; Buster Charlee Morris of Glendive, MT, Bill Peggy and Ben Vina Morris both of Newcastle, Bob of Wickenburg, AZ, Helen Dick Knipp of Osage and Joy Mickey Hammell of Casper. Survivors also include his former wife Karen and his children Fern Morris of Torrington, and Cody Jeanette of Osage; and two grandsons, Tye and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.
