Richard Forrest Chambers was born August 19, 1922 in Detroit. He died at home March 13, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Virginia Adams Chambers. They were married April 29, 1943. They had three devoted children, David Carol Chambers, Alan Karla Chambers and Laurel Steve Wilson. Seven grandchildren, Bryon, Ron Jennifer, Kim Rick, Shane Heather, Merissa, Ross and Rebecca. Four great grandchildren, Courtney, Kayla, Connor and Sophia. Dick was a Birmingham police detective who retired after 30 years of service. After retirement, he drove a Birmingham school bus and taught new drivers for 10 years. He was a World War II veteran of the K-9 and Corps of Engineers. He was stationed in Okinawa. Dick was a lifetime member of the Masons, a member of the Michigan Mineralogical Society and past president of the Birmingham Metropolitan Club. After retirement, Dick and Virginia enjoyed traveling and collecting rocks. They also had more time to spend at their property up north where they enjoyed making maple syrup and fishing. Dick enjoyed hunting with the guys, reading westerns, football and Nascar. Visitation will be Monday 1 p.m. until the time of service 4 p.m. at Wm.
