Richard M. "Rick" Calverley, age 55, a resident of Royal Oak, died December 13, 2011 at home with his children and wife around him after a long courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born December 30, 1955 in Pontiac, but lived all his life in Royal Oak. He graduated in 1974 from St. Mary High School of Royal Oak, where he met and married his wife and best friend, Lois Anne Franz. They were together for 38 years and married for 31 years. Rick was the third generation co-owner of Calverley Heating and Cooling, working at the family owned business since 1981. He was the company President for the past twenty years. Rick belonged to the Junior Officers of St. Mary's and this year was entered into the J.O. open Hall of Fame of which he was awarded as the first ever inductee. He was an active member of the Royal Oak Elks for 26 years, where he won many awards including Officer of the Year and Elk of the Year. He volunteered countless times for many charitable causes through the Elks. He was a longtime employee of Calverley Heating & Cooling. Rick played many sports throughout his life. He was an excellent pool player and loved playing golf with his son and fellow Elks. He was also a music aficionado, regularly saying, "Children are my life, but music is my sanctuary." Rick was so loved by his in-laws that they built him a new garage this year. Rick was the beloved husband of Lois; loving father of Kristen Seth Reese and Richard J. "Ricky" Stephanie Miller; cherished son of Richard J. and Marion; dear brother of Thomas April, Peter Mary, Paul, James Susan, Carole Steve Wilson and Ann Marie Doug LaPine; also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his grandparents, William and Helen Calverley and William and Helen MacDonald.
