Funeral services for Reva Marie Taylor, 81, will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 15th at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors. The family asks that memorial contributions be given toward the Order Of The Eastern Star Scholarship.
Reva died Wednesday, March 12th at the Weston County Manor.
She was born January 11, 1927 at Harrisburg, South Dakota the daughter of George and Edna Schumaker Amen. She grew up on the family farm outside of Carthage, South Dakota with her father and two brothers, Fred and Lester. During World War II she worked in Minnesota at a factory making bombs.
On February 12, 1949 she married Nathan Taylor in Aberdeen, SD. The couple lived in Lead, SD for a short time, lived on the family farm North of Carthage, moving to Newcastle in 1953.
Nate and Reva bought their first and last home in Newcastle. Reva loved her home and the family she raised there. As a young mother she loved to follow her boys in their wrestling career and her daughter in swimming. She worked at the First State Bank as a teller for fifteen years. She was a member and a past matron of Newcastle Chapter #30, Order Of The Eastern Star and was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
Reva loved to crochet and had many beautiful projects to show off. She quilted and liked to garden but mostly she loved the family gatherings. She enjoyed dancing, music and would sometimes play a tune on the piano.
In later years, many people would come to Reva's house. She always and time for a cup of coffee and a homemade chocolate chip cookie or an Oreo. Her kitchen table will be remembered and missed by many.
Survivors include two sons, Greg Bev Taylor and Tim Pam Taylor; one daughter, Marcia Bill Lambert; nine grandchildren, Brett Andrea Taylor, Brian Willa Hokanson, Kelsey DeBock, Robin Jason Aylesworth, Ryan Taylor, Brinton Taylor, Becca Taylor, Will Lambert, and Cole Lambert. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren; one brother, Lester Amen; and two sisters-in-law Charlotte Taylor and Vivian Amen.
