Thornton, Raymond "Ray", age 76, a longtime Royal Oak resident. Passed away at home surrounded by family on December 29, 2009. Dear husband of Sylvia Reynolds. Father of Gary Sue Thornton, Doug Debbie Thornton, and Pam Strunk. Loving grandfather of Paul Sara, Joe Amy, Brian, Greg, and Melissa. Great-Grandfather of Jack, Brooklynn, and Zack. Brother of Bob Lynda and the late Sally Killebrew. Brother-in-law of Jerry Killebrew, Joyce Dick Tenniswood and Bob Connie Reynolds. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in Austria and Germany. He retired after 35 years in the construction business and was a Member of the Carpenter's Union for 54 years. Ray was an avid sportsman, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed vacationing and fishing in Florida for the past twelve years. Ray accomplished walking every street in Royal Oak and provided dog bones to all the dogs along the way. He loved people, loved to work with his hands and loved to help others. Funeral Service Saturday, January 2, 2010, 11 a.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road 4 blocks east of Woodward, Royal Oak.
