Peter Monaco

June 12, 1923 — August 25, 2012

Monaco, Peter Joseph, 89, of Sterling Heights, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, August 25, 2012. He was born June 12, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Stella Hojnacki Monaco. He was employed at General Motors Technical Center-Chevrolet Engineering until his retirement in 1988. Peter was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII. He was the recipient of numerous medals for his service in the European Theatre. Peter was also a high school tennis player, coached by Michigan Tennis Hall of Famer, Jean Hoxie, who referred to Peter as her best server.
Peter was preceded in death by his wives Theresa Marie Carey and Laura Jayne, and his brother, Frank Monaco. Peter is survived by his three children, Diane Kathleen Monaco Ezzi Salari, Daniel James Julie Monaco and Craig Peter Suzanne Monaco. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Jacob Daniel Toni Monaco, Gabrielle Theresa Matthew Srugis, Rustam Peter Salari, Sara Catherine Salari, Bijan William Salari, Kamran Salari, Susan Salari, Christopher Craig Monaco, Matthew Peter Monaco, Aiden Srugis, and Jacob Daniel Monaco, Jr. Friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 12:30 pm until 3 pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. 4 blks E. of Woodward Royal Oak. Memorials to the Friends of the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC are appreciated.
