Peter J. Mangiaracina, age 89, a resident of Royal Oak, passed away March 27, 2014 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born December 3, 1924 in Flint to the late Vito and Benedette Mangiaracina. Mr. Mangiaracina was a U.S. Army medic during World War II. He received his master's degree in education from Wayne State University. He worked as a full-time art teacher and part-time driver education instructor at Royal Oak Kimball High School, until his retirement in 1984. He also worked part-time as an art teacher at Oakland Community College. In his spare time, he enjoyed watercolor painting, sculpting and gardening. Mr. Mangiaracina was the beloved husband of Joan Hutchins; the couple married June 13, 1959 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Royal Oak; loving father of Carol Daniel Huntsbarger and Paula Allen Richardson Tucker; dear brother of Katherine the late Gordon Gibson, Dolores the late Milton Yard, the late Janie Salerno, Paul Figioli, Pauline Salerno, Phillip Mangiaracina and Samuel Mangiaracina; proud grandfather of Abigail Jacob Livingston, Mary Richardson and David Richardson; and great grandfather of Josiah, Hezron and Tobias. A memorial service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. Memorials to Honor Flight Michigan, American Heart Association or donor's choice of charity are appreciated.
