Memorial Mass for Paul A. Scissons, 79, will be celebrated at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 17th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Phil Wagner and Deacon Ken Pitlick as celebrants. Burial of cremains will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. The family prefers
memorial contributions for the benefit of the Weston County Library.
Mr. Scissons died Saturday, September 13th at Weston County Health Services.
Paul was born July 15, 1929 at Gregory, South Dakota the son of Alvin and Vera Ryan Scissons. He served in the U. S. Army and was with the occupation forces in Japan following World War II. On September 2, 1950, he married Darlene Berendes. Mr. Scissons received his Bachelor in Science Degree from Black Hills State College in Spearfish and a Master's In Education in 1962 from the University of Wyoming. His educational career began in 1951 at Wood, South Dakota teaching 5th and 6th grade. He taught 8th grade over in Igloo, South Dakota prior to his career as teacher and principal at Gertrude Burns Elementary School in 1956. Paul took early retirement in 1987; however, he "unretired" in 1988 and served as the elementary/junior High Principal in Miller, SD until 1992. In addition, Paul was chosen Wyoming's Distinguished Principal in 1987.
Paul was active in the Catholic Church, Newcastle Lions Club, and was a lifetime member of National Education Association. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as golfing. He loved doing crossword puzzles and always enjoyed reading a good book. His greatest joy, however, was going to work and being with all his students.
Survivors include his wife Darlene; his daughter Roxie Scissons of Carpenter, WY; three sons, Robert Gloria Scissons of Toledo, OH, Michael Kara-Leigh Scissons of Cheyenne, WY, WY and Patrick of Casper; five gradnchldren, Natalie, Nichole, Chloe, Mia and Mika; Also surviving are a brother Jim of Gregoary , SD and a sister Vera Jonas of Rapid City, SD.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a grandson Andre.
