CHAPATON, OSCAR J. age 87, July 11, 2009 of Sterling Heights. Loving husband for 63 years of Jean nee DeClerck. Beloved father of Maureen Dr. Patrick Rivard, Ann Wesley Masters, Thomas Natalie Chapaton, and Darlene Lapp. Loving grandfather of Dr. Elisabeth Rivard, Jeffrey Rivard, Maggie Masters, Katie Masters, Mathieu and Clarice Chapaton. Mr. Chapaton was a General Contractor for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2950 third degree since 1963. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. His second love was composing songs when he had the time. One song, "A Doughboy's Night" was written in a fox hole in Leyle, Philippines, which Ginny Sims Kay Kyser sang nationwide. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII in the 96th Infantry, Division 383rd "Deadeyes" Headquarters as a radio operator Tech Sergeant from 1942-1946. He received the Presidential Citation and two Bronze Stars for bravery with valor. He built 31 projects for the Archdiocese including churches, rectorys, additions to schools as well as many homes. Parish Rosary 7PM Tuesday. Mr. Chapaton will lie in state on Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 18203 23 Mile Rd., Macomb from 9:30 AM until 10:00 AM time of Mass.
