Mr. Watson passed away on the morning of Sunday, August 26, 2007 at the Sturgis Long Term Care Health Center in Sturgis, South Dakota of natural causes.

Art was born on August 29, 1915 in Mansfield, Texas; the son of Frank and Dora Anglin Watson. When Art was a young child, his family moved to Crowley, Colorado where he graduated high school. At the age of 13, Art lost his beloved mother. His family lived on a farm where his father kept the children close together. It was a hard life but built strong people. Art?s dad had built trestles for the railroad in Texas, so Art learned a lot about building while growing up.

In 1934 Art met his wife, Sylvia Sober, and they were married in April of 1935. Art and Sylvia had 3 children born in Colorado. When work became scarce, because of the depression and the start of World War II, the family moved to California where Art worked as a carpenter until he was drafted in 1944 to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves Ships Repair Unit. Art spent his war service in the Admiralty Islands South of the Philippines, repairing damaged ships. After the war, another child was born, and Art and Sylvia made their home in Pleasanton, California with Art working in heavy construction and building homes. After 30 years in California, Art and Sylvia moved to Upton, Wyoming in 1973 and became active in the Upton United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, two daughters, Dora Gene Brown of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Stella Tom Zaro of Wallace and Pleasanton, California; two sons, Frank Kay Watson of Sturgis, South Dakota, and Jim Christine Watson of Lake Tahoe, California, and Dayton, Nevada; one sister, Katie Bigelow of Holly, Colorado, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two sisters, Ennis Masterson and Alice Womack, and one brother A. Doc. Watson, two brothers in law, and his parents.
