William( Bill) Gerald Burleson, 76, of Newcastle passed away Wednesday, December 8 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born October 7, 1934, in Rapid City South Dakota to Newell and Lois Busby Burleson. He attended school in the Black Hills area until his family moved to Newcastle in 1949 were he graduated from Newcastle High School in 1953.
On October 7,1956 he married Loretta Jean Taylor in Newcastle Wyoming. The couple have lived in Newcastle all 54 years of their marriage raising 2 children Connie and Jim.
Bill served his country in the United States Army and later in the National Guard Reserves . As a young man Bill was a roustabout in the oil fields. He worked for the US Postal Service and as a postal contractor taking mail daily between Newcastle and Cheyenne. Bill also served as supervisor for the Weston County Weed and Pest for 3 years and as chairman of the board for 30 years. Bill was a volunteer for the Newcastle Fire Department serving as assistant fire chief . Bill loved to hunt and fish and had many stories to tell his family and friends about his adventures.
Survivors include his wife, Jean ; Daughter Connie Kuhn and husband Denny of Scott City, Kansas, Son Jim Burleson of Newcastle ; Grandchildren Jared Bogard, Garden City Ks., Adrian Wheeler and husband Brady of Scott City, Ks, Emily Boedeker and husband Mark of Lawrence , Ks., Colter Burleson , Rory Burleson and fiancé Hannah Walker of Newcastle, Wyo. and 2 Great granddaughters Wakely and Adelaide, sister Judy Choate and brother Ken Burleson , several aunts , uncles, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday December 11, at 11 am at the Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Anderson.
The family suggest memorials to the Newcastle Fire Department in lieu of flowers.
