Mr. Warren Shaw

February 9, 1936 — October 31, 2012

Warren R. (Dick) Shaw, 76, of Newcastle, WY died October 31, at the Weston County Health Services after an extended illness.
He was born February 9, 1936 in O'Neill, Nebraska to Harold L. and Helen (Roseler) Shaw. Ranching was his life from the day he was born. He grew up at the JO Ranch with his family. He attended country school as a child and graduated from Rock County High School in 1954.
He married Myra Mitchell in Bassett, NE on June 29, 1954. They lived and worked at the JO until 1959 when they moved to Bassett. During this time, he worked multiple part-time jobs, until he found fulltime employment at the Lacalf Ranch. He worked there until 1961 when his family acquired the 77 Ranch at Devil's Tower, WY. For over ten years, Dick and Myra lived and worked in Hulett where he instilled in his children the principles of hard work, a love for horses, and his passion for team roping. Dick was actively involved in the Hulett Roping Club, Crook County Horseman's Association, and Tri-County Electric.
In 1973, the 77 Ranch sold. Dick and Myra purchased a ranch south of Newcastle, WY. They spent 19 years raising their family, ranching and roping. Dick and Myra enjoyed being with friends and family while working and playing. Dick had a unique way of blending work and recreation, which fostered a strong family bond. He and Myra were devoted parents and, in later years, grandparents. Many of the grandkids remember feeding cattle, riding horses and learning to drive on the ranch.
In 1992 Dick and Myra retired and moved to Newcastle. For the next twenty years, they worked various jobs and enjoyed their family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In those years, Dick sought to instill that same sense of hard work, a love for golf, and his passion for children.
Dick was a great father, granddad and great-granddad. He was able to realize all of his goals through work, family and recreation. He was a great patriarch and will be missed by those whose lives he touched. His love for horses, ropes and kids will continue to be realized through his surviving family:
His wife, Myra (Mitchell) Shaw; daughters, Kim (Dick) Myers, Belle Fourche, SD; Jan (Randy) Farella, Newcastle, WY; Jodi (Ed) Ferguson, Eaton, CO; a son, Rick (Lisa) Shaw, Lusk, WY. His brother, Wayne (Jane) Shaw, Miles City, MT; his sister, Linda Shaw of Red Lodge, MT.
Bringing the most joy and sunshine to his life were his 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He also had special relationships with many of his nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Frances Helen and a nephew, Scott Martin.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 10th at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Holland officiating.
