PIEDMONT - Patricia Anne "Pat" Wheeler, 64, Piedmont, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Weston Manor Nursing Home in Newcastle, Wyo.
She was born Sept. 9, 1946, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Homer and Mary Wheeler. As a young girl she lived on a farm near Spirit Lake. The family moved to Lake Park, Iowa, where she attended public school, graduating in 1965.
On Nov. 22, 1965, she married Bernard "Bud" Arp, and they worked the Arp family farm in southern Minnesota. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many clothes for her daughters and herself. In 1983,the family moved to Newcastle, where she was employed at the Old Mill Inn.
Pat moved to Rapid City in 1985, where she worked at The Crow's Nest Truck Stop, which later became the Flying J.
In 1995, she moved to Piedmont with Ralph Newman, where they enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards and visiting family and friends. She took pleasure in her crafts, painting and quilting.
Survivors include Ralph Newman, Belle Fourche; her son, Michael (Kelly) Arp, Newcastle; two daughters, Wendy Morris, Newcastle, and Tina (Devon) Williams, Brookings, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Ashley and Alyssa Arp, and Tye and Brandon Morris, all of Newcastle, and Ethan, Levi and Zachary Williams, Brookings, Ore.; a sister, Barbara Hanson, Spirit Lake; a brother, Donald (Rose) Wheeler, Balaton, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family invites friends to a carry-in dinner in Pat's honor at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Weston County Senior Center in Newcastle.
