Mrs. Mary Gray

Funeral services for Upton resident Mary L. Gray, 85, will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 24th at St.Anthony's Catholic Church in Upton with Fr. Phil Wagner and Deacon Ken Pitlick officiating. Burial will follow in the Upton Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. Mrs. Gray died Friday, January 20th at Weston Manor Nursing Home in Newcastle.
Mary was born November 4, 1926 at Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (nee Philbrook) Lorenz. She was a high school graduate. She married Harold Cummings on May 14, 1945. Following the death of her husband she married Allen Gray in 1959. He too preceded Mary in death. Along with raising her four children, Mary was a school custodian, a retail clerk at the Upton Drug Store, and cleaned homes and motel rooms.
Mrs. Gray was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on the Board at Antelope Height Housing. She enjoyed drawing and painting. Mary was happiest surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving her are her children, daughter Sharon Hieb of Newcastle; sons Harold "Buzz" Cummings of Upton and Charles "Charly" Cummings of Berthold, ND and one sister, Laurel Clausen of Savage, MN. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, one brother Richard, one sister Virginia and one daughter Lynn-Ellen "Punky" Brennan.
