Mrs. Marjorie Elliott

Marjorie "Marge" Rita Rawhouser Elliot, 96, went to be with her Lord on May 19, 2017, after a long bout of suffering from rheumatoid-arthritic pain. Marge, daughter of Richard (Dick) and Margaret (Feeney) Rawhouser, was delivered by her father, November 29, 1920, on the Canyon Springs Prairie, Four Corners, Wyo. When the doctor arrived to do the delivery; being the impatient sort she was, she had already made her appearance. Her father Dick had read how to deliver a baby on the bottle of Castor Oil, and had followed the directions right down to cutting the umbilical cord. Dr. Wells looked over the newborn and mother and said: "Good job Dick. That will be $25 please." Marge married the "love of her life" Eugene Elliott, at the age of 24 on January 1, 1944, and remained married for 54 years until Gene's passing in 1997. To this union three children were born, each four years apart, Terry (Janet) of Newcastle; Judy (Bernie) Reausaw of Rapid City, S.D. , and Kim of Parker, Colo,. whose wife Val Webb passed away in 2016.
Marge had four siblings, all of Newcastle, all now deceased as well as their spouses: Richard (Pauline); David "Brub"- (Anna Marie); Jim (Rosetta); and sister Helen (Larry Petrie.).
Marge graduated from Newcastle High School in 1938. She had to work for her room and board for her Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Lee Bettis in order to attend high school in town. She attended college at Black Hills Teachers College for one year and obtained her teaching certificate. She began teaching school at the Boyd Country School. Her wages were $70 per month. After five years of teaching rural school she moved to Newcastle and taught at the School on the Hill and later at the Gertrude Burns School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1962 by attending summer school at BHTC, also through extension courses and night classes. Teaching school was Marge's lifelong passion and " God given" talent. She absolutely "loved it." She taught school from 1938-1984. Marge taught three generations of the Dale Cool family. She
influenced many lives as her students passed through the doors of her classroom; mainly though her final teaching domain in room #40 at the Gertrude Burns School. Marge was a schoolteacher for 44 years.
She was a member of several organizations among the many were: Dirt Daubers Garden Club, several bridge clubs,(at one time she played bridge three times a week), [one of the bridge clubs was comprised of members she played with for over 65 years- the same ladies], she was a Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority member, Marge was very pleased to become a member of the Methodist Church, and she was instrumental in writing the book series; "Fading Memories Afterglow' with which through the proceeds from sales of the books provided many scholarships for NHS students, She was hostess to the Elliott reunion for over 50 years. The only surviving Elliott, Don of ldaho, represented the last reunion. He visited Marge at Mondell Heights in 2016, and died a few months later, leaving Marge the sole survivor on either side of the maternal and paternal family heritage tree of that generation.
Marge was extremely proud of her grandchildren's educational professional achievements. Her goal was to put her three children through college which she accomplished. Her children carried on this tradition and her oldest grandchild, Judy's daughter, Tammie (Matt Stiess) became a dental hygienist and practices in Pforzheim, Germany. Judy's second daughter, Sara (Kyle Wilson) is a dentist in Rapid City, S.D. Judy's son, Brent (Carena) is a real estate appraiser in Lead, S.D. Kim's three daughters: Toni, Julie and Kelsey are all UW graduates. Toni and Kelsey are in financial services and are Colo. residents. Julie is a registered nurse in Casper. All three girls are single. Terry's son, Travis (Jan) is a chiropractor in Newcastle. Terry's daughter, Lynette (Mike Hicks) was a day care operator in Colorado Springs, Colo. before becoming
disabled. Lynette's daughter Erica is Marge's oldest great-granddaughter. She graduated with honors from high school last year and has completed one year of college.
Judy's daughter Sara delighted Marge with four great-granddaughters: Khloe-6, Sophie-3, Elli-1 and preceding Marjorie in death, Kaylee Jean. Judy's son Brent added another great-granddaughter, Summer-10months. Terry's son Travis and daughter-in-law Jan just adopted 5-year-old Lazarus Alexander adding a brother to 16 year old Jacob and 12 year old Abby. This newest addition to the family rounds out Marge's great-grandchildren number to nine.
Marge made it clear, Becky Vodopich, was her fourth "adopted child". Terry, Judy and Kim have accepted her lovingly as their " fourth" sibling. We appreciate Becky for all the loving care she provided for Mom.
The funeral will be Friday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church with a reception to follow. A memorial has been established, please send to the Retired Teacher's Scholarship Fund.
