Mass of Christian Burial for Lois Hunter, 75, will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, October 18th at St. Matthews Catholic Church with Father Cliff Jacobson as celebrant. Recitation of The Rosary will be Monday, October 17th at 7:00 pm at St. Matthews Church. Burial will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, October 19th at Black Hills National Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle.
Lois passed away on October 13, 2011 following a courageous 10 month battle with cancer.
Lois was born in Dewey, South Dakota on September 16, 1936 the daughter of Ralph and Jessie (Cass) Fillinger of the Morrisey area in Wyoming. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1954 and completed a graduate course in Denver, Colorado in 1955.
After completing her graduate course Lois married the love of her life Ken Hunter on June 11, 1955. Throughout the beginning of their marriage their jobs took them to California, Colorado, Nebraska and then back to Wyoming. In 1967, the couple made their home in Gillette, Wyoming. Lois worked at Decker's Food Center from 1968 to 1997 when the store closed. Lois thoroughly enjoyed the relationships built with her Deckers' family and many customers she helped over the years.
Lois was very dedicated to her family. She was always helping them with any task they had. Lois also had a great appreciation for the outdoors. During the summer she loved flowers and always had pots of them around her yard. In the winter she could often be found outside shoveling snow. She was also an active member of the Catholic Church her entire life.
Lois is survived by her husband Ken of Gillette, two sons Doug (Sheila) Hunter of Sundance and Dale (Ronda) Hunter of Gillette; three granddaughters, Tonya Gay of Laramie, Wyoming, Makayla Cooper and Kelsey Kinney both of Gillette; three great granddaughters; her brother Don (Sandy) Fillinger of Newcastle; brother in law Don Gregory of Newcastle and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Preceding her in death were her parents and sister Marlene Gregory.
