Mrs. Joanne Grieves

Joanne Dee Grieves, 75, of 1273 Grieves Road, Newcastle, Wyoming died Monday, April 2nd at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.

She was born June 29, 1936 at Faith, South Dakota the daughter of Harold E. & Gladys R. (Tibble) Shrull, She attended elementary school in Deadwood, South Dakota and Igloo, South Dakota before graduating from Newcastle High School with the Class of 1954. She also attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Joanne married Jack A. Grieves in 1954 and moved to the Grieves family ranch where she continued to live her life, ranching and raising her family. Joanne was in love with her country lifestyle and her biggest loves were her family, ranch, horses and Rodeo. Joanne supported her husband, boys and grandchildren as they competed in rodeos and ropes around the country. She would also support any and all who competed. From the Weston County Junior Rodeo to the Lazy E. Ironman competition to the National Finals Rodeo. If you competed she would know you, or knew of you. But always knew what horse you rode. She was a tremendous hostess, cook, homemaker and mentor for many. She was known for her hard work and unselfish devotion to her family and friends, and always had room for another at her table. She often told friends that she was a professional roping chute operator and coach.

Joanne is survived by her husband Jack of Newcastle; sons J. D. (Deena) Grieves of Upton, WY and Chuck Grieves of Newcastle; sisters identical twin Jeanne Seppala of Gillette and Sherry Tavegie of Sheridan; grandsons J.R. of Upton, and Chase and Tyler Grieves of Belle Plaine, MN; grandaughter Jacy Grieves of Upton; and her Welsh Corgi dog Yogi of Newcastle; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 7th at the Weston County Senior Center in Newcastle with Rev. C. H. Whiteman officiating. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be given to the Weston County Humane Society in lieu of flowers.

Worden Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
