Mrs. Jean Petty

Carneta Jean Petty, 87, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at her residence after a period of failing health.

Born August 8, 1924, in Wisbech, St Mary's, England, she was the daughter of Ernest and Maud (Dawson) Worlding. She attended school in Leicester, England and at the age of twelve went to work as an apprentice in a grocery store, later become manageress. During World War II she was a volunteer with the Red Cross.

She came to America in 1946. On August 11, 1953 she married Darrell Duane Petty in Lusk, WY. A year later she became an American citizen.

In Newcastle, WY she was employed at Modern Cleaners not only as an employee but as a seamstress. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and home canning, gardening, hunting and enjoyed attended Black Powder Rendezvous'. As a seamstress she clothed her family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its' Relief Society and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #2516 of Newcastle.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years of Thermopolis; sons, Russell (Ella) Petty of Sioux Falls, SD; Dale (Barbara) Petty of Douglas and Scott Petty of Gillette, WY; daughters, Deborah Petty of Gillette and Sandra Petty of Thermopolis; twelve grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren and brothers, Don (Jan), Terry (Anne) and Jimmy Worlding, all of England. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ted.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 15th from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis. A second visitation will be at Worden Chapel in Newcastle on Tuesday, April 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Funeral services will be held in Newcastle at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 9:00 am Wednesday, April 18th. Bishop Greg James will officiate and Dr. Wayne Erickson will read the eulogy. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.
