Mrs. Helen Berdahl

Helen Marie (Overvaag) Berdahl, 94, of Newcastle, WY, died June 10 at Weston County Manor surrounded by her family.
Helen was born March 20, 1917 on the family farm outside of Dell Rapids, SD, the only child of Hans and Clara Overvaag. Helen Graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. She taught in Fedora, SD and later in Newcastle, WY with a special love of early childhood and special needs education.
She married Erick Berdahl on June 13, 1940 in Dell Rapids, SD at the Willow Creek Country Church. They were married for 65 years and to this union 5 children were born. Helen and Erick moved to Newcastle, WY in 1946.
Helen was very active in the Lutheran Women's church group. She enjoyed volunteering at the Weston County Manor and senior center. She also enjoyed traveling, arts, crafts, and crochet.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Erick in 2005.
Helen is survived by her daughter Carol (Jim) Gustin of Newcastle; daughter Nancy (Jerry Jernigan) Budaj of Denver, CO; Son John (Barb) Berdahl; Son Mark (Beverly) Berdahl of Nikiski, AK; Son Steven (Kim) Berdahl of Casper; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Worden Funeral Directors (111 Railway Ave. S., Newcastle) on Tuesday, June 14 from 5-7pm.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, June 15 at Christ the King Lutheran Church (224 West Rd, Newcastle). Following the Funeral Service, a burial will take place at Greenwood cemetery in Newcastle, WY.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Weston County Manor Activities Fund (1124 Washington Blvd, Newcastle, WY) or Christ the King Lutheran Church (224 West Rd, Newcastle, WY).
