Helen Marie Bartlett, 90, of Newcastle passed away quietly on July 4, 2012 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
Helen was born March 2, 1922 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Clay and Clain (Strough) Keever. She had two sisters and two brothers and was raised on a farm in the area. She attended schools in Maryville, Missouri and Platte Secretarial College in St. Joseph, Missouri.
On November 14, 1947 she married Charles W. Bartlett. They met in Pella, Iowa where they both worked at the Pella airport. They lived in Pella, Palestine, Texas, Hannibal, Missouri, McFall, Missouri, Burley, Idaho, Martinsville, Missouri, Cedar Lake, Indiana, Lincoln, Illinois, and Normal, Illinois before moving to Newcastle, Wyoming in 1960. Charlie was a flight instructor and mechanic at the Newcastle airport and in 1966 became the manager. Helen worked as a bookkeeper at Ranchers Gas, Cambria Forest Industries and the Weston County Fair Board. She had four children: Marilyn, Thomas (Tom), Carolyn and Charles (Chuck). She was involved in her children's activities, especially 4-H where she was a club leader and a cooking and sewing instructor. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She will be remembered for her famous noodles by all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Charles, Newcastle; three children, Marilyn Van Briggle (Marv), Gordon, Nebraska, Carolyn Foster (Art), Laramie, Wyoming, and Chuck Bartlett (Patty) Saratoga, Wyoming; grandchildren: Chris Van Briggle (Deanne), Centerton, Arkansas, Brett Van Briggle (Kylee), Omaha, Nebraska, Major Tanya Foster, Fountain, Colorado, stationed at Ft. Carson, Hilary Foster, Laramie, Brandon Foster, Laramie, Kelly Reilly (Don), LaQuinta, California, and Eric Bartlett (Natalie), Maple Valley, Washington; great grandchildren: Kyle Bartlett, Kiersten Bartlett, Jack Reilly, Charlie Bartlett, Levi Bartlett, and Riley Foster; brother, Nelson Keever (Lois Jean), Maryville, Missouri and sister: Ilene Weber (Don), Longmont, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tom and grandson, Heath.
Funeral services will be held at the Worden Funeral Home, 111 South Railway Avenue, Newcastle, Wyoming on Monday, July 9 at 10 a.m. Memorial donations can be given to the Weston County Fair Board.
