Shawn Scott Price, age 43, formerly of Osage, died Jan. 14,2011,
at home 'ith his family following a brief but courageous fight with
cancer.
Shawn was born Aug. 11, 1967 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Bill T.
and Betty (Parks) Price. His family moved back to Osage in 1969
where he attended grade school. He graduated from Newcastle
High School in 1985, then attended Casper College before
graduating from the University of Wyoming in 1995. For the last 6
~ years he has been an engine boss for the National Park Service
at Lava Beds National Monument in Tulelake, California and
living in Klamath FaIls, Oregon.
He is survived by his mother Betty Price of Osage, sister Kim
(Bruce) Hansen of Newcastle and brothers Billy Price of Osage
and Steven Price of Newcastle. Other survivors include Aaron,
Ashley, and Denette Price of Newcastle and Kristie, -Shawn and
KaylaAylesworth of Upton. He was preceded in death by his
father B.T. Price and four nephews.
Shawn got active in sports before he even started grade school.
When he was only a couple years old, his brothers Billy and Steven
player for the Osage Oilers, a little league baseball team. Shawn's
grandmother Parks sewed him a baseball suit to match his big
brothers which he wore to all the games to cheer them on. While
attending school in Osage, he was on the basketball team,
participated in AAU wrestling and in track. Jimmy Kelly and
Shawn were the only 2 boys in their class, but Shawn was trilled to
get a ribb?nin eveIJ;..event he entered. In high school, he wrestled .'
and was a pole vaulter on the track team. He also enjoyed playing
the drums in marching band. While at Laramie, he helped coach
high school vaulters. After graduating, he returned to this area and
continued helping out the local pole vaulters including one of his
pallbearers, Stevie Manders. Shawn would show up at 6:30 in the
morning to work with them before going to work, then show up
again after work to help out. Shawn was also active with the Osagt:
Fire Department and later as one of the early EMT's with the
Osage ambulance. He would go on to get his certification as a
National Registry EMT and got to work the first aid station on a
couple fires. Shawn worked as a seasonal firefighter with the
Bearlodge Forest Service in Sundance for a couple years before
getting on with them full time. He later transferred to Tuscon to
work at the Saguaro National Park before transferring to the Lava
Beds National Monument in Tulelake, California where he had
been an engine boss for the last 6 Y2years. He lived in Klamath
Falls, Oregon where he enjoyed mountain biking, golfing and
helping co-workers raise money for the American Cancer Society.
He looked forward to inviting them all over every year for
Superbowll parties and I'm sure they all looked forward to his
pickled eggs.
Shawn was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October and
returned home to Osage in December to be closer to family.
