Funeral services for Charlotte Kathleen Patton Stockton, 81, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 29th at the First United Methodist Church with Minister Paul Holland officiating. She died Saturday, November 24th. at her home in Newcastle.
Charlotte was born May 14, 1931, the daughter of Daniel George and Mildred "Meka" (Bozanich) Patton.. She's was born fifteen miles North of Newcastle on her Grandfather Patton's Ranch. She also was raised on a ranch north of Newcastle, Wyoming She attended rural school at Red Butte and for a short time at Gebo, Wyoming. When Charlotte was in the third grade she started school in Newcastle graduating from Newcastle High School in 1949. On May 7, 1955 she married James "Jim" Arlee Stockton, formerly of Grosbeck, Texas, at the First United Methodist Church at Newcastle. They moved from Newcastle in 1956 with stops in Kimball, Nebraska; Sterling, Colorado; McCook, Nebraska, and Great Bend, Kansas following Jim's work with Mid-Continent Supply Company. The family returned to Newcastle, WY in 1963 where Jim went to work for the Newcastle Post Office after working for a short time for an oil field supply company. Together, Jim and Charlotte raised three children, Vicki Lynn, Michael James, and Mark Alan. Charlotte's family was her life and she loved them dearly. She enjoyed observing and hearing about all of their accomplishments as they grew up both in school and as they were adults. Jim and Charlotte attended most all of the kids sporting events. When Charlotte was a High School Senior, she went to work part-time for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, a Department of Agriculture in Newcastle. After High School she became a full-time employee for seven years until 1956. During that era, only men were made managers but in 1950, Charlotte was one of three women made a manager. They were Charlotte from Weston County, a lady in Crook County, and another lady in Washakie County. After working for Newcastle, she went to work for Tower Transportation Company in 1964. In 1965,
She went to work for Weston County Clerk's Office for thirteen years. In 1979, she went to work for the City of Newcastle as a Billing Clerk, retiring in October, 1996. When time permitted from work and family she liked watching sports, especially her own kid's and grandkids activities and sports, playing bridge, bowling, and bunko. She belonged to the Odds and Ends Bridge Club since 1950. As her family and friends would attest, she loved to shop. She consciously thought of others and their needs and
Would commonly have multiple gifts waiting to go to various family, friends, and others. The care and thought for each of those gifts truly showed her constant and conscious expression of her love and deep heart so others could feel joy in their life. She was a great mother with an edge of tough love and honesty. Charlotte's family was actively involved in the Newcastle Fire Department most of their married life, as were other firemen families. Jim was on the competitive drill team and even chief for four years. Charlotte had ten surgeries in her life beating cancer twice before. She would also like to
give a special thanks to family and friends and especially Rita Conklin, Betty Henderson, and sister-in-law Jean Patton.
Charlotte is survived by the three children and families; daughter Vicki Lynn and husband Joe Alrenholtz of Laramie, Wyoming; Michael Stockton and wife Belinda from Orofino, Idaho; and Mark Alan and wife Victoria Stockton from Ferndale, Washington. Her four grandchildren; Shaunna and husband Chad Baysinger of Laramie, Wyoming; Brandon and wife Paula Ahrenholtz of Laramie, Wyoming; Shane Alan Stockton of Ferndale, Washington; and Jackson Brown of Bellingham, Washington; two great grandchildren Nathan Paul Ahrenholtz and Andrew James Ahrenholtz of Laramie, Wyoming; special sister-in-law Jean Patton and husband and brother Dennis Patton; also, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" May 25, 2003, her parents, grandparents, special uncle Mike Bozanich, granddaughter four month old Kristin Nicole Ahrenholtz; and her infant brother and sister.
Burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the "Helping Hands" organization at P.O. Box 555, Newcastle, Wyoming 82701. Coffee and cake will be served at the church following the services.
