Betty Jording, 85, of Newcastle, Wyoming, died of complications of a stroke and heart disease at Weston County Health Services on April 1, 2014.
She was born March 31, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Dorothy Young. As a young girl she was educated in Chicago public schools and later graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 with a BS in Commercial Teaching. She was originally raised in the Catholic Church, and later as a child she joined the Episcopal Church. She spent her last years supporting Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newcastle.
On June 2, 1951, she married Don Jording in Oak Park, Illinois. Beth was born in 1952, and Mike was born in 1953. For the next 22 years, her pride and joy were her children, and she graciously followed them in their educational and life pursuits. That joy continued with 3 granddaughters and two grandsons, all of whom gave her great joy. One of her greatest gifts to her grandchildren was a gift of a vacation after high school graduation. Her influence encouraged travel by her grandchildren.
Beginning in 1950, she taught business classes in Sibley, Illinois for two years. She and her husband moved to Riverton, Wyoming in 1952. After several other job locations for Don, they settled in Wheatland, Wyoming, where she began teaching high school business classes in 1954. Her family lived in Wheatland until 1970, when they moved to Newcastle. After tutoring a blind student for one year, she began teaching full time business education at Newcastle High School in 1972. She continued teaching until her retirement in 1994, and she taught in Eastern Wyoming Community College Adult Education in Newcastle for another 10 years. She was known throughout the business community for her preparation of students in her Office Simulation classes. Many of her students occupy leading roles in Newcastle and Weston County businesses. She was a leader in establishing the first Wyoming state FBLA convention and took the first Wyoming students to the national FBLA convention.
She and Don traveled after retirement and enjoyed many vacations with family and friends. She was a leader in establishment of a women's investment club in Newcastle. She enjoyed playing tennis, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling with her husband. Don and Betty were frequent season ticket holders for the University of Wyoming football program.
Survivors include her husband, Don Jording of Newcastle; her daughter Beth Meteer (Jim) of Wildwood, Missouri; her son Mike Jording (Peggy) of Newcastle; grandchildren Christy Ozuna of Huntington Beach, California, Jami Wiedemer (Matt) of Beaverton, Oregon, Emily Davies (Mike) of Villa Park, Illinois, Joe Jording (Larissa) and Alex Jording (Hanna) of Denver, Colorado; and great grandchildren Adam, Rochelle, Rhianna, Zoe, and Ruby.
