Ralph Edwin Chiles, 73, of Moorcroft Wyoming, died Tuesday, December 4, at Pioneer Manor in Gillette Wyoming.
Ralph was born March 25, 1939 in Deep Water Missouri to Prince P. Chiles and Dorothy M. E. (Morgan) Chiles. When he was eight years old he moved with his family to Newcastle Wyoming. After the death of his father in 1948, Ralph along with his mother and sisters Edna Mae and Esther, moved to Osage Wyoming to begin a new chapter with their step-father Laurence A. Dewey in 1950. Ralph attended schools in Weston County Wyoming, graduating from Newcastle High School in 1957. Ralph enlisted in the United States Army in 1960. He was stationed in Texas and Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was Honorably Discharged in 1963.
September 25, 1966, Ralph married the love of his life, Shirley S. Shook. To this union they had three children, Brenda, Connie, and Robert. They made their home in Moorcroft in 1968.
Ralph worked various construction jobs before starting Chiles Construction in the early 1980's. He owned and operated it until 2010 when he was unable to continue to work due to his health.
Ralph enjoyed fishing, playing cards, making Christmas candy, playing with his dogs, and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Ralph is survived by his wife of Moorcroft Wyoming; children Brenda Schooler (Ron Clubb) and Robert Chiles (Barb) of Moorcroft Wyoming, and Connie Moore (Alan) of Casper Wyoming; grandchildren Brittany Hoang (Ben) and Stephanie Schooler (Nate Ratkovec) of Gillette Wyoming, Benjamin, Taya, and Lane Steffens of Casper Wyoming, and Brailey and Bristol Chiles of Moorcroft Wyoming; and four great grandchildren. Brothers William Dewey (Carol) and Fred Dewey (Lynn) of Moorcroft Wyoming and Larry Dewey (Carol) of Bondurant Iowa. Sisters Edna Mae Korfanta (Herman) of Billings Montana, Esther Duffield (Don) of Johnstown Nebraska, and Alice Dewey of Colorado Springs Colorado. Ralph also has numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Ralph is preceded in death by his father Prince P. Chiles, mother Dorothy M. E. Dewey, and step-father Laurence A. Dewey, and one nephew Ricky Duffield.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 9 am with services following at 10 am at Moorcroft Community Center, Moorcroft Wyoming. Burial will be after the services at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle Wyoming. Worden Funeral Directors in Newcastle Wyoming is in charge of services. Ralph's niece, Shayla Graham will be officiating.
