Phillip F. Shuck, 87, Of Newcastle died Tuesday, June 30 at Rapid City Regional
Hospital.
He was born June 28, 1928, in Nemo, South Dakota to parents
Arden C. Shuck and Dorothy (Day) Shuck. As a young boy he grew up on the Manke
Place 12 miles south of Newcastle and attended Clifton Rural School in Weston
County. Phil graduated from Newcastle High School in 1946,and attended The
University of Wyoming. Upon returning home he started The Shorthorn Dairy with
his father
On February 15, 1957, he married Delores Marilyn Allen. The
couple made their home on the family ranch four miles south of Newcastle. During
his tenure on the ranch, Phil was a distributor of Pepsi Cola and employed by
Pete Fields' sawmill, Petrolane, and Wyoming Refining Company where he retired
in 1989.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of which
he held various offices. Phil was a charter member of the First Christian Church
where he served as an Elder and Adult Sunday School Teacher. Phil enjoyed
raising cattle and took great pride in his lawn.
He took pleasure in
watching his family grow. He is survived by one sister, Maurice Hinsdale of
Gillette, four children: Valorie (Bruce) Linch of Cheyenne, Vanessa (John)
Tunnell of Parkersburg, WV, Vonda (Keith) Emmert of Janesville, CA, and Jeff
(Sandy) Shuck of Newcastle. He was preceded in death by his parents, one
brother, Richard, one sister, Vera and by his loving wife, Marilyn. He had ten
grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Services will be Friday,
July 3, at 2:00 P.M. at The First Christian Church in Newcastle following a
public viewing at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Lynn Schleicher will officiate. The family suggests memorials be made to The First
Christian Church in Newcastle.
