Millard Nels Mitich, 90, died Sept. 20, 2011, of heart failure, at the Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.
Millard was born on July 13, 1921, in Lead, S.D. His parents, Nick and Anjella Mitich and family, moved to Wyoming in 1927.
Millard served our country during World War II by enlisting in the Army and joined troops fighting in the Philippines, where he attained the rank of sergeant. Millard spent his life farming and had a special love in playing music. Millard played in the Alex Mitich Band and his talents included playing the guitar, saxophone, mandolin, accordion and drums, all by ear because he could not read a note of music. Until his death he played the electric keyboard daily.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Bea Mitich, married just over 58 years; his parents; brothers, Alex, Larry, Donald and Tom Mitich; his sister, Betty Murray; a set of twin siblings, Mable and Melvin; great-grandson, Alex Martelon.
He is survived by a brother, Marvin (Ruthie) Mitich, of Casper; a sister, Vi Lunney of Newcastle; son, Bob (Renee) Mitich, of Donnelly, Idaho; step-daughters, Beatrice Martelon of Arvada, Colo., and Betty (Allen) Wing of Rochester, Minn.; step-son, Bob (Brenda) Rawhouser of Laurel, Mont.; and also by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Honorary pallbearers are his Grandchildren.
A military funeral will be held held at the Boyd Cemetery on the prairie at 10 a.m. Sept. 28, 2011 with Doug Jorrey officiating. Following the graveside services a celebration of life and luncheon will be held at the Weston County Senior Services Center in Newcastle.
A memorial has been established to the HLC of Weston County, P.O. Box 854, Newcastle.
Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle were in charge of the arrangments.
