Mr. Leroy Griffith

Leroy Griffith, 66, of Newcastle, died June 16, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1947, in McLeansboro, Ill., to Hallie and Gladys Griffith.
Leroy was a devoted brother, husband, father and papa. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garage and in the yard. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 and worked at True Oil in Newcastle for 17 years.
Leroy is survived by his eight siblings, Robert Griffith, Morris, Ill., Bernadine Griffith, Kenosha, Wisc., Genevieve Sinks, Eldorado, Ill., Adrain Griffith, Mount Vernon, Ill., Geraldine Buchner, Alton, Mo., Harold Griffith, McLeansboro, Rose Squarsich, Amite, La., and Marvin Griffith, Chicago, Ill.; four children, David Martin, Kansas City, KS, Stacy Griffith, Trenton, Ill., Tina Chick (David), Newcastle, and Misty Griffith, Highland, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Aidan and Avery Chick, Michael and Adam Martin. He is also survived by his wife, Charlotte.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Eugene Griffith, Vernice Lee, Vertis Griffith and Junior Griffith.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 19, at Worden's Funeral Chapel, with Phil Thurman officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle with military graveside rites. A reception followed at Weston County Senior Services Center in the Michael's meeting room. In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions or donations to Charlotte Griffith, 44 Pine Top Drive, Newcastle, WY 82701. A memorial has been established for cancer research.
