James Charles Beckton, 91, of Newcastle died Monday, April 29th at Weston Manor Nursing Home of natural causes. He was born February 17, 1923 at Hanna, South Dakota the son of William and Mary (Bandura) Beckton. During World War II he served in Europe in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1946. On March 27, 1976 he married Alice Smith in Denver, Colorado. Jim lived in Denver where he was employed by Dow Chemical Company as a machinist. He later moved to Mondell Heights Assisted Living in Newcastle and later to Weston Manor Nursing Home.
He is survived by a brother Lloyd Beckton of Newcastle, nieces and nephews Richard Taylor, Jean Burleson, Marge Bender and Bill Beckton; also surviving are two step daughters, Nancy Buechner and Carol Heffler, and a cousin Bernice DeLor.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, brother Bill Beckton and sister Marie Taylor, nephew Stanley Beckton
Recitation of The Rosary will be Wednesday, May 7th , 7:00 PM at Worden Funeral Chapel in Newcastle. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 8th at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.
A memorial has been established in James Beckton's name to the Newcastle Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2516.
