Gene H. McCoy, 75, left this life on June 22, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born January 12, 1939 at Newcastle, Wyoming to Ellen Wantz and Lewis McCoy. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, a volunteer Fireman, a member of the drill team, a fixer of all things and a retired propane manager. He enjoyed life, had many friends and tried so many things, antique cars, wood working, making stools with tiles in them, bird houses, wind chimes and raising chickens. He was the cackle berry peddler. He was a hunter, fisherman, golfer and camper, he loved the outdoors! He took on baking pies for friends and family, his favorite was peach. During his 41 years in the propane business he got many awards for best manager, top sales, and bonus for #1 in accounts receivables, trip rewards for his excellent job. He was called on from other managers and traveled the state to help them solve problems. He was awarded a Medal of Honor from the Governor of Montana for bravery in saving the life of a gasoline delivery driver and putting out the fire.
He is survived by his wife Marge; daughters Lisa (Greg) McAlister of Bakersfield, CA grandson Eric and great grandson Kaleb; and Chris McCoy of Seattle, WA; sisters Iris Genoff of Newcastle, Nadine Jursnick and Deloris (Ron) Press of Portland, OR and brother Bob (Cathy) of Ardmore, OK.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers Donnie, Rex and Mark.
Memorial services are planned for 2:00 PM Thursday, June 26th at 2:00 PM at the Newcastle Senior Services Building with Bill Haley officiating. A memorial to Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department has been established.
Worden Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.
