Donald (Donnie) L. Rogers 83
Don passed away Thursday, Dec. 26th 2013
at Weston County Health Services losing his battle
to cancer. A native of Newcastle, born July 30 1930,
The son of Asa and Susie (Bunner) Rogers.
Don is a Newcastle graduate of the Class of 1949.
He served in the National Guard Active Duty and Army in the Korean War.
On April 21, 1951 he married Patsy R. Lalley from Plankinton, SD while Don
was working road construction. Don and Pat worked at family owned Greenwood Grocery on Pine Street
for a number of years. Don also drove milk truck, hauled mail,
worked on oil rigs which lead him to the oil field for the rest of his working
years. He liked the variety of the oil field where he hauled tanks all over,
dug many a ditch, put in lots of pipe and worked with lots of very memorable
people which he enjoyed. For around 25 years, when his "day job" was done, he hauled drinking water to
people on the out skirts of town where Don met more very
dear friends to which he stayed in touch with, lots became just like family.
When Don retired he enjoyed making lots of donations in
Deadwood, and visiting the guys and gals at the Senior Center.He enjoyed the ones that he played
cribbage with. Don liked to garden and share his
fruits & vegetables with any one that wanted them. He always had a story to tell.
He made friends where ever he went. Don enjoyed hunting,
camping, fishing and did a lot of that when time aloud.
Survivors include: his wife of 62 years Patsy, Newcastle; two children, Ronald (Jen), Douglas, WY,
their two children, Jessica and Asa (Jenny) Rogers, great granddaughter Lumen Jade Rogers all of Denver, CO.
Beverly (Mike) Szuma, Newcastle; their two children; Kara (Bubba) Shaw, Perkinston,
Mississippi, great granddaughter Kamdyn Maylee Shaw: Duane (Presleigh) Szuma,
Williston, ND, great grandson Laeton Michael Szuma, great grandchild Baby L on the way.
Nephew, Wayne Allen Rogers, Seattle, WA.
Don will be greatly missed
Don was proceeded in death by his mother (Susie) and father (Asa), two brothers (Allen and Bryan) and one sister (Sara).
A memorial has been established in Don's name to the Michael's Senior Center and Weston County Health Services.
No Services are scheduled -Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle, Wyoming have been entrusted with the arrangements.
