Mr. Chester Jones

December 11, 1920 — November 20, 2010

Chester S. Jones, a life-long resident of Weston County, WY, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2010 in Belgrade, MT. He was born to Harold and Ida Jones on December 11, 1920 in Upton, WY.

Chester attended Upton schools, Black Hills State Teachers College and the University of Wyoming where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the track team. He earned a BA degree before entering the U. S. Army Signal Corps. After completing courses in cryptology at fifteen different Signal Corps training schools he was dispatched to the South Pacific Theatre.

In 1942 he married his childhood sweet heart, Maurine Braley, of Upton and in 1952 they moved from Upton to Newcastle where they raised four children.

Chester completed his law degree in 1947 and joined F. F. Wakeman in the practice of law in Newcastle. He served as Weston County Attorney and later as Upton city attorney.

A long and cherished friendship and partnership began in 1952 when he and Richard Dumbrill opened their law practice on Main Street in Newcastle. He was recognized for 50 years of distinguished service in the Wyoming State Bar in 1997.

After his retirement in 1980 Chester and Maurine spent winters in Yuma, AZ where they hosted many visits from family and friends from Wyoming.

Chester was a member of the Wyoming Bar Association, the University of Wyoming Alumni Association, Newcastle Lions Club, Newcastle Forum Club and belonged to the Newcastle and Yuma Country Clubs.

Chester is survived by his daughter Sue (Gary) Huls of Bozeman, MT and son-in-law Bruce (Jenny) Arfmann of Arvada, CO. Also surviving are five grandchildren and four greata�"grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother, his wife Maurine, sons Kenneth and Keith and daughter Elaine.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Newcastle at 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 1, 2010 with Rev. Paul Holland officiating. Memorial gifts may be to the Newcastle Lions Club or a charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at PO Box 965, Newcastle, WY 82701.
