Chester Ellis Hemler, 88, of Newcastle, Wyoming died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming.
Ellis was born June 8, 1924 in Government Valley South of Sundance, Wyoming the son of Sadie and Chester Hemler. He attended high school in Sundance, Wyoming until enlisting in the U. S. Army during World War II. He served as a hospital corpsman. Following his discharge he returned to ranching at the family ranch and later retired from the U. S. Postal Service following a career of 28 Years. Ellis was known for his musical instruments and his mechanical and carpentry craftsmanship. He built his Newcastle log home with logs he harvested from the Hemler family ranch.
Surviving him is a son, Douglas E. Hemler and daughter in law Karen Hemler both of Golden, Colorado; and grandchildren Eric and Laura Hemler. Nieces Janette Heidtke of Reedsburg, WI and Kathy Gearhart of Sundance Wyoming. Also surviving is his nephew, Lee Habeck of Sundance.step children Joyce Adridge (deceased), JoAnn Cunningham, Janice Stevenson, and Georgette Nelson. eight step grandchildren, 19 step grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Ellis will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, January 7th at Worden Chapel in Newcastle. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 8th at Worden Chapel with Pastor Bill Haley of The Country Church, Four Corners, WY officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah cemetery at Sundance Wyoming with military honors by the V.F.W. Post of Gillette, Wyoming.
A luncheon wll be served following interment at Chapel of Faith, 116 S. 3rd Street, Sundance, Wyoming.
